Exopulse Mollii Suit for Parkinson’s Disease

Several health conditions may cause chronic pain and limited mobility because of spasticity. One of the better-known examples of this is Parkinson’s Disease, which causes the patient to shake uncontrollably and worsen as time passes. The Exopulse Mollii suit is clothing that stimulates muscles with electrostimulation to help return control over the body to the user.

How the Exopulse Mollii Suit Works

The suit consists of three parts: pants, a jacket, and a control unit, which may be taken off. Throughout the suit, 58 electrodes are in place to stimulate specific muscles. While the electrodes are there, you can program these to work according to the wearer’s specific needs to stimulate the right muscles.

To help improve muscle function, the suit stimulates antagonistic muscles to the spastic muscles. If one area of the body is spastic, the suit will then stimulate the antagonistic muscle via electric pulses. This causes the other muscle to relax, using a natural reflex referred to as reciprocal inhibition. The constant stimulation of the antagonistic muscles improves overall function.

Since the suit stimulates the muscles for contraction, it is easier for the wearer to move, as the nerves require less signal strength to signal the body to contract a muscle. The result is the ability to move with much less difficulty.

In addition to easing muscle spasticity and making it easier for the body to relax, the suit uses electrical stimulation to block pain sensations from reaching the brain. For those who have chronic pain, this can give a lot of pain relief. Since it uses such a low frequency and provides multiple stimulation points, it’s believed that the suit may activate opioid receptors in the nervous system.

The recommended use is for one hour every other day to relieve pain and improve motor functions. While everybody responds differently, the stabilizing effects may last up to 48 hours.

Who could Benefit from the Exopulse Suit?

Many health problems and diseases may benefit from using the Exopulse Mollii suit. Made for those with spasticity, muscle tenseness, and chronic pain, the suit could benefit people with:

  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Brain injuries
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Stroke
  • Parkinson’s Disease

This easy-to-wear suit functions like normal clothing, and it’s available in multiple sizes so children through adults may use it. The suit is easy to use with a button to turn it on and off. The automatic cycle of muscle stimulation runs for one hour before turning off.

The Exopulse Mollii suit is changing the way people manage pain and disability. It provides hope for those suffering from lower mobility because of a stroke, disease, or another issue and can drastically improve mobility and quality of life.
